Cooling Towers are used on most of your major buildings and, as its name implies, are used for the air conditioning of the building. There are two major types of towers as illustrated on your cooling system survey sheet. They are Counter Flow and Cross Flow and even though many appear to differ from one another, they usually fall into these two categories.

Explanation of Cooling Tower Operation

Cooling towers work on a very simple principle of heat exchange. If you put water on your hand ‚ the evaporation of the water draws heat from your hand and cools the skin. That is how a tower works.

Problems With Towers

The three principle causes of problems in cooling towers are as follows:

    Algae     Scaling     Corrosion
